Points to Ponder in Isaiah 58-66
1. What passages from these chapters help increase your faith in God’s existence, in His goodness, and/or in the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Possible Answers to Points to Ponder in Isaiah 58-66
1. What passages from these chapters help increase your faith in God’s existence, in His goodness, and/or in the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
My list would include:
- 58:11, 14: The Lord’s delight to bless those who will keep His commandments.
- 61:1: God’s desire is to bind up the broken-hearted and bless the downtrodden.
- 61;6: Universal priesthood
- 61:10: My soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, etc.
- 63:17: The JST version clarifies that men harden their own hearts.
- 64:4: Since the beginning men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hathe the eye seen … what God hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
- 65:18: I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
2. What passages from these chapters help teach, motivate, or inspire you to live better?
My list would include:
- 58:6-7: Proper fasting includes fast offerings to help the needy.
- 58:13: The sabbath should be a delight on which we don’t seek our own pleasure but to honor and serve God.
- 65:1: The JST reads, “I am found of them who seek after me; I give unto all them that ask of me.”
- 66:2: Need for a contrite spirit and reverence for God’s word.
3. What prophetic passages do you find in these chapters which you believe relate to the mission of Jesus Christ?
My list would include:
- 59:20: The Redeemer shall come to Zion.
- 60:16: Thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
- 61:1-3: Quoted by Jesus as referring to Himself in Luke 4:18-29. “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable yar of the Lord.”
- 63:1: Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? (2nd Coming)
- 63:3: I have trodden the winepress alone. (In Gethsemane and on the cross.)
- 63:8: He was their Saviour.
4. What are your favorite passages from these chapters relating to the latter days?
My list would include:
- 60:2-3, 10-12, 14, 18-22: The Latter-day Zion described.
- Lord’s glory shall arise upon her.
- Gentiles shall come to thy light.
- Sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee.
- Gates shall be open continually.
- Nations that will not serve her shall perish.
- No more violence in her land.
- The glory of the Lord will replace the light of the sun.
- Days of mourning will end.
- People will be all righteous.
- The Lord will hasten His work in His time. (See JST clarification.)
- 62:2: The Gentiles will see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory.
- 62:4: “Thy land shall be married.” I.e., Israel will abide by her covenant with God, as a bride is faithful to her husband.
- 64:1-2: When the Lord rends the heavens at the Second Coming, the mountains will flow down and the nations will tremble at His presence.
- 65:9: “I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.”
- 65:17-25: New heavens and a new earth. Rejoicing in Jerusalem. Longevity and prosperity during the Millennium. (The JST says children will not die but will live to the age of 100.) No enmity among men or beasts.
- 66:8: A nation will be born at once.
- 66:15-16: The Lord will come with fire, and the slain of the Lord shall be many.
- 66:22: New heavens and new earth.
