Points to Ponder in Isaiah 50-57
1. What passages from these chapters help increase your faith in God’s existence, in His goodness, and/or in the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Possible Answers to Points to Ponder in Isaiah 50-57
1. What passages from these chapters help increase your faith in God’s existence, in His goodness, and/or in the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
My list would include:
- 50:2: God reassures us of His power
- 50:7: The Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded.
- 54:7: For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.
- 54:17: No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper.
- 55:1: God’s blessings are offered without money nor price.
- 55:8-9: My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.
- 56:7: God’s blessings are intended for all.
- 57:1-2: Death is a blessing to the righteous, who enter into peace and are spared the evil to come.
2. What passages from these chapters help teach, motivate, or inspire you to live better?
My list would include:
- 50:10: Those who fear the Lord and obey His servants will not walk in darkness.
- 51:7: Fear ye not the reproach of men.
- 51:9: Awake, awake, put on strength … as in the ancient days. Also 52:1.
- 51:12: Don’t be afraid of man.
- 52:7: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings. Though this applies first and foremost to Christ, Mosiah 15:15-18 makes clear that it also applies to all who preach the gospel.
- 52:11: Be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the Lord.
- 54:2: Lengthen thy cords and strengthen thy stakes.
- 55:2: Don’t spend money or labor for that which cannot satisfy.
- 55:6-7: Seek the Lord while He can be found. Repent and God will abundantly pardon.
- 56:2: Importance of keeping the Sabbath holy.
- 57:21: There is no peace to the wicked.
3. What prophetic passages do you find in these chapters which you believe relate to the mission of Jesus Christ?
My list would include:
- 50:6: Christ gave His back to the smiters, etc.
- 52:7: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings.
- 52:13-15: Christ to be exalted, though his visage would be marred more than any man.
- 53:2: Christ to grow as a tender plant out of a dry ground, with no special physical beauty.
- 53:3: Despised and rejected of man; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Despised and not esteemed.
- 53:4: Borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.
- 53:5: Wounded for our transgressions; with his stripes we are healed.
- 53:6: The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
- 53:7: Opened not his mouth; like a lamb to the slaughter.
- 53:8: Cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of God’s people.
- 53:9: Made his grave with the wicked and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence nor had any deceit in his mouth.
- 53:10: When he should make an offering for sin, he should see his seed.
- 53:11: Would justify many, for he would bear their iniquities.
- 53:12: Numbered with the transgressors; bare the sin of many, making intercession for them.
- 55:3: The sure mercies of David. Cf Acts 13:34.
4. What are your favorite passages from these chapters relating to the latter days?
My list would include:
- 51:3: The Lord will make Zion’s wilderness like Eden; joy and gladness shall be found therein.
- 51:6: The heavens and earth will vanish away.
- 51:11: The redeemed of the Lord shall return and everlasting joy shall be upon their head.
- 52:1-2: Zion to awake, arise in her strength and put on her beautiful garments. Christ told the Nephites in 3 Ne. 20:36-38 that this would have a latter-day fulfillment. See also D&C 113:8.
- 52:8-10: They shall see eye to eye. All the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
- 52:12: Gathering not to be with haste.
- 54:1: More are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife.
- 54:13: All our children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of our children.
- 55:7: Even the sons of strangers God will bring to His holy mountain and make them joyful in His house of prayer.
