Why would a salesman say, “I’ve never met a Mormon who wasn’t happy”?

Some years ago I was shopping for a used car.  The salesman found out I was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He remarked, “I’ve never met a Mormon who wasn’t happy!”  I didn’t have the heart to tell him there are some.  But I can agree with the salesman, if we change his statement just slightly.

My wife Virginia and I have never met a fully committed and practicing member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who wasn’t happy.  That doesn’t mean they don’t suffer the same pains, challenges, and disappointments others face.  Certainly there are reasonably happy people of all faiths and of no faith at all.  But we are convinced that in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (whose members are commonly known as “Mormons”) there are unique elements which makes it possible for followers to find a greater inner peace and a deeper joy than can come from any other belief system on earth.

The purpose of this website is to share why we believe that.  I want to explain why Virginia and I consider ourselves two of the happiest people we know.  I will also share why we are  convinced that the doctrinal claims of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are true and how others can reach the same conviction.

We hope you will enjoy the articles which follow.  Should you have questions, you are welcome to write me at [email protected], and I’ll do my best to respond.

I have also posted “Points to Ponder” related to each week’s scripture study in the Come Follow Me program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Most of my posts are in both English and Spanish.  Virtually all have also been posted to sites at Google’s “blogspot.com,” so that they will be available after my passing, in the likely event that they are no longer available at this Latterdaysaintandhappy.com site.  Here are the Blogspot addresses:
