Points to Ponder in 2 Nephi 11-19

  1. Don’t worry about understanding everything in these Isaiah chapters. As in a previous section, look for the “diamonds” among the “rocks.” Just mark at least one favorite passage in each of this week’s chapters from Isaiah (2 Nephi 11-19) and explain why you selected it.

Possible Answers to Points to Ponder in 2 Nephi 11-19

1. Mark at least one favorite passage in each of this week’s chapters from Isaiah (2 Nephi 11-19) and explain why you selected it. 

Your choice. Here are some possibilities:

11:2-3—Both Nephi and Jacob saw the Savior

11:3—Three witnesses promised

11:4–All things given of God from the beginning typify Christ.

11:8—We can liken the scriptures unto ourselves.

12:2-4—Latter-day building of Zion and establishment of universal peace

12:22—Cease ye from man.

13:9–The guilty tend to look guilty

13:16-24—The Lord reproves the daughters of Zion for their pride and worldliness.

14:5-6—Promise of the Lord’s protection upon every dwelling place in Zion.

15:13—Captivity for lack of knowledge

15:20-21—Wo to those who call evil good and good evil.

15:26-29—Modern means of transportation in the gathering of Israel.

16:1—Isaiah sees the Lord

16:10—People shut their own eyes and ears, if we read the New Testament quotation of this passage. (Matt. 13:14-15)

17:14—Isaiah’s own son becomes a symbol for the future birth of Jesus Christ; but it is not a good proof text.  See Matthew 1:23 and 2 Ne. 18:3-4.

18:9, 10, 12, 13—We needn’t be afraid of individuals or nations who combine against us but we should fear the Lord.

18:19—Don’t use Ouija boards, astrology, etc.

19:2—The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light—the Savior’s coming

19:6—Famous verse foretelling the birth of Christ

19:16—Bad leaders cause people to err.
